The Bermuda Triangle : Myths and Facts

On December 5, 1945 five aircraft took off from Naval station, Florida into the Atlantic Ocean. The five planes collectively known as Flight 19 was on their three hour exercise of a triangular flight plan with the 14 member crew. The veteran flight leader Lt. Charles C. Taylor on the second leg of practice  ascertained that both his compass were malfunctioning and the planes were flying in the wrong direction.Soon the weather  conditions deteriorated and it was nearing sunset.

Under such circumstances the pilots were supposed to redirect to the direction of setting sun which would lead them back to mainlands. Tyler was convinced that they were over the Gulf of Mexico, he made a series of wrong decisions changing the course which ultimately took them far into the Ocean off the radars and were never heard from again.

Rescue efforts with over 300 boats and choppers combed through entire area.Till date no remains were found and crew is believed to have crashed somewhere in the Ocean ultimately exhausted off fuel. But strangely one of the rescue aircraft also exploded during the search fueling the the conspiracy theories.

This event followed many such mystical disappearances, ship-wrecks near and around this area over the years, led to the speculations of the much conspiracy theories about the "Devil's Triangle". the theories included Sea monsters, Alien space ships and Swirling Vortexes. One of them was about  long lost underwater city of Atlantis rooted underneath deep in the Bermuda triangle. The close to scientific theory is about large methane releases underneath the ocean causing the buoyancy disturbance and ultimately sinking ships. Many filmmakers were inspired by the plot of these conspiracies

Lets see the scientific explanations to these conspiracy theories. To start with the Flight 19 disappearance, the experienced leader Taylor was actually a chronic alcoholic who was quite hungover during the flight also the rest of the crew were rookie pilots. The aircraft was pretty rusty too which explains the compass malfunction. The exploded rescue aircraft  had a nasty record of explosion history in the past.

The region encompassing the triangle has heavy maritime traffic on account of the tourist attraction of Bahamas and Cargo shipments to the ports of US from around the world. Annually we have about two ship  disappearances without a trace. The number of ship accidents from the 'Triangle of death' is almost same as the lost ships  in any other parts of globe. These facts are available to the public with all detailed explanations of each accidents since 1970 but still people believe that they are being lied to the teeth by US government as part of some hidden agendas much like the Area 51 hoax.

The vast oceans are indeed an enigma but only mystery about the Bermuda Triangle is that why was there a mystery to begin with in the first place!
