The Secrets behind the hanging Artifacts

Some of these art symbols hanging around seems to be just decorative arts. But it appears they have a history and culture associated to it, some of which might sound bizarre and superstitious.

  DREAM CATCHER

The visually appealing Dream catchers has its origins among the native American tribes, handed over generations by their ancestors. These sacred hoops used to be made by the elderly when a child is born in the family. These hoops are then hung over the newborn's cradle.

In their tradition, night air is filled with good and bad dreams. These dreams get trapped inside the webs of the Dream catcher. The good ones find their way down and passes onto the feathers and reach the infant. The bad dreams gets stuck within the webs and disappear in the morning sunlight.
They used to be made out of woods / twigs and feathers so that they disintegrate as the infant grows older.

  WIND CHIMES

According to the Indian Vastu Shastra the wind chimes bring positive energy and harmony to the home as they cling in the gentle breeze. The chime cluster needs to be at least six or eight rods/bells in numbers. Up to five can only suppress the negativity around. So ideally more chimes equals more positivity.

Based on the materials used the positions which they hung around the is decided, metal chimes should hang in the North/West sides. Wooden or bamboo chimes in South/East directions.

 TIBETAN PRAYER FLAG

The five colored prayer flag/ Himalayan flags symbolizes the five elements. The health and harmony exists with balance of these five elements as per the ancient Buddhist tradition. The writings on the flags are commonly misjudged as some mantras to gods. Tibetans believe the  waving of the flag spreads peace and harmony with the wind.

They should be hung in places having wind circulations also the flag touching ground is considered disrespect. Its good omen to receive them as gift than to purchase them yourself, next time you plan on buying one have someone gift it to you :)
